Descriptive Title: Irvin Green   Type: Document
Date of Origin: May 10, 1959   Provenance:
Size: 7 1/4 x 10 1/16"   Condition: very good
Text: [front] This picture was made of me when I was about 4 years old. The clipping was one given to me by my father -- Mama kept it all these years. I thought you would like to have it. Dad Love to all on Mother's Day. Irvin Green May, 10, 1959. [poem] FATHER TO SON The times have proved my judgment bad, I've followed foolish hopes in vain, And as you look upon your dad You see him commonplace and plain, No brilliant wisdom I enjoy; The jests I tell have grown to bore you, 'Twas I who chose your mother for you! Against the blunders I have made And all the things I've failed to do, The weaknesses which I've displayed, This fact remains forever true; This to my credit still must stay And don't forget it, I implore you; Whatever else you think or say; 'Twas I who chose your mother for you! Chuckle at times behind my back About the ties and hats I wear. Sound judgment I am known to lack. Smile at the ancient views I air. Say if you will I'm often wrong, But with my faults strewn out before you, Remember this your whole life long; 'Twas I who chose your mother for you! Your life from babyhood to now Has known the sweetness of her care; Her tender hand has soothed your brow; Her love gone with you everywhere. Through every day and every night You've had an angel to adore you. So bear in mind I once was right: 'Twas I who chose your mother for you! Copyright, 1934, by Edgar A. Guest
Misc Info: Document is cardboard stock. It has a photo of a child standing next to a big branch with a statue on it. Child is holding statue on the branch. Statue is white. Next to the photo is a poem titled, "Father to Son" On the bottom of page is a salutation from Irvin Green.

No Date (circa 1922) Return photo to Harry E. Chrisman 10245 W. 14th Ave. Denver, Colo. 80215 Newspaper clipping: After that day's rodeo was over, I exercised horses, cleaned stalls and finally made the big time. Hugh and Mabel Strickland were there along with Bonnie Gray, all trick riders, and I helped with their prize horses. I don't recall whether it was that year or later, but at one time, as part of her act, Bonnie jumped her horse, King Tut, over an open touring car (convertible) loaded with dignitaries. Terrible Tumble Red stretches the rawhide pretty thin here: At the end of the jump, Bonnie missed a stirrup and was thrown. Her leather skirt caught on the saddlehorn and, in plain view of the audience, she was peeled naked as the hub caps on the car she'd just jumped. That year, Mable Strickland won The Denver Post Ladies'Relay Race. At the time, of course, I never realized that years later as a representative of that great newspaper, I was to put an end to that event for one valid reason: There wasn't a lady in it. The riders all had whiskers--and wore snoods packed with horse hair. Since that time we've sponsored the wild horse race. And you can bet there's no women in it. The lib movement hasn't gone that far. On my first visit the rodeo lasted only four days. I rode home on a Burlington freight train. This year, starting next Saturday afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, the biggest, wildest, most exciting rodeo in the world will run nine days. And I'll get up there for a day at least --somehow or other. Red Fenwick Fenwick Denver Post 7-18-71
