Size: 8 1/2 x 11"   Condition: fair
Text: Dear Estelle C. Laughlin, The two pictures of the lecturer and the phonograph etc. was taken at Reddington and the hall over there years ago. Mr. Moomaw has the information about the man and could tell you. I believe he originally obtained the pictures from a person in Washington or Oregon who corresponded with him. It runs in my mind his name may have been Gilman, as he was a photographer there in Reddington. Bridgeport Nebraska January 11, 1969 [1st paragraph] Sincerely Joseph W. Fairfield Star Route, Bridgeport Nebraska 69336 Dear Estelle, (not quite so formal) 'Just thought I would add a word! Joe has ancestors by the name of Henton, who, according to records, owned land adjoining that owned by Mordicai Lincoln. Also, the Boone families owned land opposite them and a cousin of Daniels married one of Joe's relatives. It's written in a book by one of the Henton relatives who is is living in Portland, Oreg. We have a copy if you would like to read it sometime. "Mrs. Joe" P.S. We have quite a number of old pictures of the Henton's, so wonder if "Abe's" might be an "original." Almost forgot about your question about the pioneer pictures. Are they polaroid prints? What kind of preservative do they need? Are they regular prints or newspaper cuts??

CHRISMAN 10245 W. 14th Ave. Denver, Colo. 80215 ; THIS PAPER MANUFACTURED BY KODAK [note] VII Q. As the West was opened up for settlement, and the Oregon Trail became the path upon which the railroads were lain, what record do we have of those pioneers who died along the trails, giving their lives that others might find a better life in the West? A. The above photo is your answer. Here, in 1964, Rebecca Winters Bennett, the G-G-Granddaughter of Rebecca Winters who died on the Mormon Trail (near present Scottsbluff, Nebr.) shows her daughter the wagon tire that marked her G-G-G-Grandmother's final resting place for more than 112 years. Rebecca Winters died August 6, 1852. The wagon tire bears the legend, "Rebecca Winters, Age 50." The granite marker was put up later. Photo courtesy of Omaha World Herald. [Omaha World Herald is underlined]
Misc Info: Photo is of a little girl standing by a marker. The little girl is on the inside of the fence. There is a lady standing on the other side of fence, holding the little girls hand.
