The old and mysterious Red Rock of the Palo Duro is shown, northwest of the Green ranch home. The small map (inset_ may help to locate the area on the Oklahoma panhandle state map. Mr. Green lives at Lisle, Illinois today.

(next paragraph) Mr. Willard was born in Pott. Co. Kans. And never having lived in the area of which you speak he has nothing to add t the History. But as his wife also from Kansas I would be very pleased to read your book. "Lost Trails of the Cimarron." (next paragraph) In fact I have not reconstructed the areas through which the Cimarron River passed. I do remember that the Cim-River ran through Okla. Not too distant from Faxan. The ranch operated, according to Marion W. Eldridge from whom this photo was obtained, from the late 1800s to 1897. His father Marion W. Eldridge, Sr., was foreman from 1892 to 1897. The sr Eldridge then acquired the ranch headquarters site, 160 acres, which his heirs still own (1966). In the photo above, to the right in long coat, man believed to be Col. Hardesty.

Text: [back] "Eight mules were hitched to three wagons and were driven with a jerk-line. The driver rode the nigh (near or left) wheel mule. A single line extended to the nigh lead mule; the off (right) lead mule was controlled with a jockey stick. The four -[?]pans were connected with a chain. The wagons were connected with stub tongues and chain. In crossing any sandy creeks, rivers or through the sand hills north of Jim Lane's (Beaver City, Okla.) we'd always drop our trail wagon, then [then crossed out] pull through with the lead wagon, then bring up the trail wagons, one at a time." A lone buffalo skull lies in the foreground, adding to its ancient granduer. Text: [front] The Jones and Plummer Trail - Main Street, Beaver City Okla., 1893 [back] The Jones Plummer Trail, circa 1873-1893, extended southward from Dodge City, Kansas, through Beaver City, in No Man's Land, to Fort Elliott, Mobeetie and Rath City, Texas. The trail was the main artery of commerce, first for the Buffalo Hide Hunters and the freighters, later for the cattle herds that ranchers moved up to Dodge City and the Santa Fe railway. I layed out these cards (500) for Mrs. Sharp. Had them printed by Rawleigh Wyant and Don Adams at Southwest Daily Times. H.E.C. 1961 Post Card
