You mentioned me taking a add in a magazine, I only have about 350 books lieft and they sell quite fast. I have had a column in a local paper here and get lots of letters wanting books. (next paragraph) If you see fit to run this story that was in the annals of Wyo in one of your magazines you can have the story for the add. I doubt very much if these magazines today the way the have the cowboy undertood by the present day readers, would want an authenic explanation of what a real cowboy wa. Wish I could spell & type. Over (next paragraph) Of course if we still had the wide open spaces, range, and cattle we would still have some dam good cowboys. If you can run this article O.K. Please send me the annals of Wyo back as it is the only one I have. You still have our invitation to visit a couple old timers. Ed

Now I suddenly get a request for several good photos of "active bucking horse scenes." of horse trying to buck off the rider. Do you have such a thing I could borrow for a few days? Will return them promptly. Went to see an old rodeo man, (86) Monday and found him in a nursing home; so no chance of photos from him. Cowboys (originals) (Kirkland) F4211 [note taped to photo] Q. What sort of saddle horses did the old-time range cowboys ride? A. The photographer Kirkland of Cheyenne caught this excellent group of saddlehorses on the Roundup near Cheyenne. It depicts the general mustang stock the cowmen used in the 1880's and 1890's on the Wyoming range. Some of the stock had, by this time, been crossed with Morgan, American Bred Saddler and even Thoroughbred stock. Even traces of the Texas Steel Dust breeding remained in these fine saddle horses. --Denver Public Library Photo

Old John Kirkpatrick, shown above at age 70 while steer-roping, lived on his little ranch on Skull Creek, near Cody, Wyoming. "Old John," as everyone called him, was once, in 1934, a guide, to the ranches on the Clark's Fork of the Yellow-stone when the author was buying horses in that area.
